Family Birthplace

Our unit is equipped with 6 labor, delivery, postpartum rooms, 2 labor rooms, 2 triage beds and a nursery for special care infants. Our staff encourages rooming-in infants with families to assist in the bonding process. Skin-to-skin contact at deliveries both vaginal and c-section is routine for our moms and babies. Both labor & delivery nurses and nursery nurses are educated in breastfeeding management to assist mothers in their feeding choice and meet mothers goals for breastfeeding.

We have one international board certified lactation consultant on staff. Patients that require additional assistance will be seen during their hospital stay. If the patient has any questions or difficulties breastfeeding, please call 432-464-2266 and ask to speak with the lactation consultant.

We have a partnership with URS Medical Breast Pump Depot that allows our patients to get electric breast pumps through their insurance companies. This program allows the Family Birthplace to issue double electric breast pumps to our patients. We are proud to have this partnership as an extra step in helping mothers stay successful with their breastfeeding goals.

Family Birth Place now offers more opportunities for education using the Newborn Channel.

The Newborn Channel delivers essential newborn and parenting information to help prepare new moms when they need it most. New parents and their families can enjoy easy access to highly trusted, professionally endorsed content on topics such as infant and mom care, siblings and family living, work-life balance and more.

The Newborn Channel provides engaging and accessible programming on many topics, including:

• Diapering, bathing and other infant care
• Mom health and recovery topics
• Breastfeeding basics and tips for success
• Safety topics like Car Seat Safety, Smoking Cessation, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and more

Programs and transcripts from the Newborn Channel are also available for new parents on demand before, during and after their hospital stay.

Information on the channel can be received prenatally at Andrews Family Medicine with Dr. Fitzgerald, Dr. Puri, Dr. Tochterman, and Dr. Waddingham. The educational content on the Newborn Channel is overseen and reviewed by a Medical Advisory Board which works diligently to ensure all content is up-to-date and presented in a clear and understandable way for patients and their families.
